Career:
A full time Public Representative since elected to South Dublin County Council in June 1999. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann in 2002 for the constituency of Dublin Mid-West and then re-elected in May 2007. John Curran has been a member of the Public Accounts Committee, Education and Science Committee and the Committee of Arts, Sports and Tourism. He was also appointed to the Social Forum (NESF) in 2004 and the Oireachtas Committee on Child Protection in 2006. He was Deputy Government Whip until his appointment as Minister of State in May 2008 at the Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs. In 2009 along with his responsibilities at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs he was given special responsibility for Integration Policy at his current Department and the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and Education and Science.


In March 2010 he was appointed Minister of State at the Department of An Taoiseach with responsibility Government Chief Whip and Minister of State at the Department of Defence. He also has responsibility for the Central Statistics Office.
