Commencement of Department of Defence Scheme 2014 – 2017
under Section 15 of the Official Languages Act 2003

The Department of Defence today announced the commencement of its third Irish Language Scheme covering the period 2014 to 2017. The Scheme, which comes into effect today, Monday, 3rd March, 2014, was prepared in accordance with Section 15 of the Official Languages Act, 2003. The objective of the new Scheme is to further enhance the provision of services through Irish and it continues the work that was initiated in the Department’s previous schemes. The Scheme is available for viewing on the Department’s website
Commenting on the introduction of the new Irish Language Scheme, Minister Shatter, said “I very much welcome the introduction of this, the Department’s third Irish Language Scheme. It builds on the progress of earlier Schemes and will seek to further enhance the delivery of Departmental services through Irish. I look forward to continued progress in this regard.”
