Minister for Defence meets the parents of the late Cadet David Jevens

The Minister for Defence, Mr Simon Coveney TD has met with Mr Donal and Mrs Liz Jevens, the parents of Cadet David Jevens Irish Air Corps who tragically died in a crash of an Air Corps aircraft on the 12th of October, 2009.

Minister Coveney took the opportunity of his first meeting with Mr and Mrs Jevens to sympathise with them on the tragic loss of their son David.

It has been confirmed at this meeting that the Military Court of Inquiry into the crash has now been completed with the addition of remarks by the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, which have satisfactorily addressed particular matters of relevance that had for some time been of concern to Mr and Mrs Jevens. This gives further clarity to the findings of the report that no responsibility attached to the Late Cadet Jevens for the incident that occurred.

Separately, Mr and Mrs Jevens have concluded their civil action taken against the Minister for Defence relating to the tragic loss of their son Cadet David Jevens.

It is not proposed to comment further.
